Media

As far back as in 1996, in reference to the phrase “Content is king”, Bill Gates predicted that the biggest winners of the internet era would be the providers of content. While the rapid growth of electronic/digital media (also known as new media) over the past decade has borne this out, what we have seen so far is only the tip of the iceberg and there is much more to come. It would not be an over-statement to say that with the increasing proliferation of information technology and ubiquity of the internet and mobile networks, incredible new opportunities (and challenges) await both incumbent and new media players.

Other than traditional media related legal work and assisting our clients to address the legal challenges to traditional media posed by information and communications technology, we also work closely with new media clients and provide them with legal advise and representation in developing and executing their strategy for the creation, management and distribution of their new media content.

Our Services Include:

  • Advising publishers of traditional, on-line and multimedia publications on all aspects of publishing law including providing pre-publication content advisory services to reduce legal liability risks arising and legal representation when they do
  • Advising music industry clientele on the licensing and exploitation of music on the internet and on mobile networks, as well as the standard aspects of the music business such as artiste, label and publishing contracts
  • Structuring and drafting contractual documentation relating to the production of content for radio, television and electronic media including the subsequent packaging, branding, sale and syndication of the content
  • Advise in relation to the governing codes and guidelines relating to content under the Communications and Multimedia Act, as well as such other legislation, codes and guidelines relating to the content and advertising industries
