Deepak is the managing partner of Haryati Deepak.

Deepak advises a wide array of international, private and public sector clientele in addressing the commercial, regulatory and policy issues relating to information and communications technology law, ranging from negotiating complex information technology contracts to advising public sector agencies on proposed technology related legislation and policies.

With over a decade of experience in the area and having advised on a broad range of cutting edge technology related matters in that time, Deepak is acknowledged as a leading Information and Communications Technology lawyer in Malaysia.

The Asia Pacific Legal 500 has described him as “the most recognised IT specialist in Malaysia” (2005/2006), and “pioneering the practice of IT law as a discrete area of law in Malaysia ... almost single-handedly educating the market” (2003/2004) and "he has an innate understanding of technology related issues whether from the legal or the business standpoint" (2009/2010).

Deepak is currently a panellist of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration for hearing Malaysian domain name disputes and has also served on the National ICT Security & Emergency Response Centre’s Panel of Experts and the Malaysian Bar’s IT & Cyber Laws Committee (1997-2007).

He is also active in a range ICT and IP related associations including the UK Society of Computers and Law (SCL), the International Technology Law Association (ITechLaw), the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (AIPA) and the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry (PIKOM).

Deepak speaks frequently on ICT related legal issues at local and international conferences such as the MSC International Cyberlaw Conference, the Computer Law Association Asia Conference and the Malaysian Law Conference, amongst others. He has also spoken/lectured for the Malaysian Judicial & Legal Training Institute (ILKAP), the Malaysian Central Bank (BNM), the National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre (NISER) and the Centre for Advanced Software Engineering (CASE) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, amongst others.

Deepak graduated from the University of Durham in 1990 and after having spent some time in the IT industry, qualified as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1994. He was a founding partner of the firm Rajes Hisham Pillai & Gopal (1997) and led its IT and IP practice group prior to establishing Haryati Deepak together with Intan Haryati.
